Application for studies

Applications for studies at Masaryk University are submitted electronically (hereafter called e-application). First choose a field of study and then file an electronic application with it.

Bachelors programmes

The study in the Bachelors programmes is open to those who have successfully completed their studies at secondary school.

Masters programmes

The study in the Masters programmes is open to those who have completed a Bachelor's degree programme.

Criteria for evaluation of admission procedure

  1. The applicant files and pays for an electronic application for study through the Information System of Masaryk University (1 November 2019 – 31 May 2020).
  2. A legalized copy of documents certifying completion of secondary education in the case of applicants wishing to study in a Bachelor`s programme, a legalized copy of a Bachelor´s degree certificate in the case of applicants wishing to study in a Master`s programme or a legalized copy of a Master´s Degree certificate in the case of applicants wishing to study in a PhD programme, including the records of previous study – a summary of completed courses and marks gained, a list of subjects in final exams and their evaluation.

  5. Applicants for Bachelor`s programme must demonstrate their English language skills at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language by submitting a certificate proving their English skills.
    Applicants for Master`s programme must demonstrate their English-language skills at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language by submitting a certificate proving their English skills.
    Applicants for the PhD programme must demonstrate their English-language skills at C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language by submitting a certificate proving their English skills.
    Applicants who have completed previous studies in English speaking countries (e. g. Australia, Ireland, Canada, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom), need not submit the Language Certificate.
  6. The documents will be reviewed by an expert Admissions Board appointed by the Dean. The order of applicants will be determined and a decision about admission to study in a programme will be made on the basis of a comprehensive evaluation of the required documents.
  7. The applicant should send the documents in Czech or in English to the Office for Studies, Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, Poříčí 7, 603 00 Brno, Czech Republic by 31 May 2020.

Recognition of Education and Qualifications

Information on the Recognition of Secondary Education

Secondary school diplomas gained abroad are subject to "nostrification". If you have certificates issued abroad and wish to enroll at our university (or any in the Czech Republic), you are required to obtain an official document confirming that your certificate is recognized in the Czech Republic. As the nostrification can take several months, it is recommended that applicants submit the paperwork required for the nostrification concurrently with their application. Applicants without this official recognition are not permitted to enroll at the University. Please contact the South Moravian Regional Authority (contact person: Ing. Bc. Information on the Recognition of Foreign Higher Education and Qualifications

All students with foreign degrees (except as set out below) must submit their Bachelor's degree for official recognition by the Czech Republic's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. As this process nostrification process can take several months, it is recommended that applicants submit the paperwork required for the nostrification concurrently with their application. Applicants without this official recognition are not permitted to enroll at the University. Detailed instructions can be found here.

Fees

Application Fee

It is necessary to pay an application fee of CZK 600. The payment of the fee must be made through Shopping Center MU (contact is included directly in your e-application).

Note: When doing a bank transfer from abroad banks may charge fees related to the transfer to an account in a foreign country. It is necessary that a full amount of CZK 600 is credited to the MU´s account.

Tuition fee

A fee is required for the study programmes taught in a foreign language. Students have to pay the full cost. The fee is EUR 2000 for an academic year (2019/2020). Accepted applicants will be informed during enrollment of the specific method of payment for the tuition fee.

Other Information

Results of Admission Procedure and Decision on Admission or Denial of Admission to Studies

Applicants must meet all the admission requirements stipulated by law and declared by the Dean before they can be considered for admission to study. After careful consideration the students will find a decision on admission or denial on admission to his or her studies in their e-application. An invitation to enroll in studies will be sent to successful applicants by post. 

Enrolment in Studies

Every applicant accepted for studies is obliged to come in person to enroll in their studies and to receive the notification of admission.  At enrolment, the applicant must submit a certificate of recognition of their prior education/diplomas. Further information will be provided to successful applicants in the letter with the invitation to enrol.

Accommodation

Students of Masaryk University are offered the services of Accommodation and Catering Services MU (Správa kolejí a menz MU). Information about accommodation is available on the institution´s website.

Transferring to a degree programme accredited in the Czech-language

Students enrolled in a degree programme accredited in English wishing to transfer to a degree programme accredited in Czech (i.e. from the fee-paying to the no-fee programme) must successfully pass the entrance exam process for that degree programme.
